Walter’s fine art covers a range of styles intended to bring his art to as many people as possible. Each individual series is intended to inspire a different part of the viewer’s imagination.
It was while on location in Hawaii for example, working as the Production Designer on the Feature Film DINOSAUR for Disney, that Walter was inspired to create a series of paintings combining beautiful coastal vistas and the imaginary worlds he designs in his films. This "Embellished Reality" is what gives Walter's paintings their magical quality. The paintings are not just intended to recreate a location but to inspire the viewers own emotions and fantasies.
The medium and technique used is different depending on the series Walter is working on.
INSPIRATIONS : These paintings start as very small sketches, usually two or three inches maximum. These sketches are then scanned into the computer and the finished painting is done digitally. The Digital Paint programs used to finish all the digital paintings are Photoshop CS3 and Corel Painter X.
ENCHANTED LANDS: These paintings starts as more detailed drawings done from nature, these are also finished digitally.
TRADITIONS: These paintings all start as pastels done from nature. They are all depictions of locations Walter has been. These pastel paintings are then scanned for digital reproduction.
SEASCAPES: These paintings were all inspired by Walter's travels to Hawaii. They all start with sketches from nature. Walter then creates embelleshed, fantasy based seascapes that are more romantic or dramatic than their actual settings. These paintings are finished in oils. They are then scanned for digital reproduction.
DOODLE PAINTINGS: These all start as very small doodles done almost entirely with a fine ball point pen. These are then scanned into the computer and finished with the digital paint method.
